Catalogue note

Distilled 1926, bottled 1986 after sixty years in a single sherry-seasoned oak cask. 75cl, 42.6% alcohol by volume. From cask 263, of which only forty bottles were ever filled.

Level and seal are excellent, the capsule intact, and the label crisp with no fading or foxing. Stored horizontally in a temperature-controlled cellar since 1994 and inspected under bond in March.

Cask 263 has become the reference point for the entire category, and the arithmetic is simple: forty bottles, some drunk, some lost, and a market that discovers a new record every time one surfaces.

Provenance

Purchased from a European private cellar, 1994; held under bond in Edinburgh since acquisition.

Condition

Mint

As issued. No signs of handling or display wear.

Condition reports are the house’s opinion, offered in good faith. Lots are sold as viewed; the absence of a remark does not imply the absence of a fault.
